The Dutch Bucket system is a highly suitable hydroponic system for greenhouse cultivation, particularly for the growth of crops like tomatoes. The following is a fundamental plan for growing tomatoes in a 10×30-foot (approximately 3.05×9.14 meters) greenhouse employing the Dutch Bucket system.

Preparation of the Greenhouse Environment

- **Lighting**: Ensure that the greenhouse has adequate natural light or supplementary artificial light sources.

- **Temperature Control**: The ideal temperature range for tomato growth is 20 - 28°C during the day and 15 - 18°C at night.

- **Humidity Management**: Maintain the humidity within the greenhouse at 60% - 80%. Both overly high and low humidity are detrimental to tomato growth.

- **Ventilation**: Excellent ventilation can prevent the occurrence of diseases and also facilitate the supply of carbon dioxide.

Configuration of the Dutch Bucket System

- **Number of Buckets**: Based on the requirements of tomato plants and the available space, approximately 20 - 30 Dutch buckets can be arranged. Each bucket has a diameter of roughly 12 inches (approximately 30 cm) and a depth of about 12 inches.

- **Nutrient Solution Circulation**: Use a pump to convey the nutrient solution from the reservoir to each bucket and then allow it to return to the reservoir through gravity. Ensure smooth circulation of the nutrient solution to avoid oxygen deficiency in the roots.

- **Nutrient Solution Formula**: Adjust the nutrient solution formula in accordance with the different growth stages of tomato plants. In the initial stage, a high-nitrogen formula can be utilized to promote plant growth, while in the later stages, an increased proportion of potassium is necessary to facilitate fruit ripening.

Management of Tomato Plants

- **Planting Density**: Plant one tomato plant per bucket, ensuring sufficient space between plants for photosynthesis.

- **Pruning and Support**: Regularly prune branches and leaves, remove weak branches and fruits, which helps the plant concentrate nutrients on healthy parts. Use supports to prevent the plants from lodging.

- **Pest and Disease Control**: Regularly inspect the plants and promptly identify and address pest and disease problems. Biological control methods can be adopted to reduce the use of chemical pesticides.

Harvest and Maintenance

- **Harvest**: Tomatoes typically commence harvest approximately 60 days after transplantation and the harvest period can last for several months.

- **Daily Maintenance**: Regularly check the pH and EC values of the nutrient solution to ensure they are within the appropriate range; periodically replace the nutrient solution to avoid the accumulation of harmful substances.

The above constitutes a basic plan for growing tomatoes in a 10×30-foot greenhouse using the Dutch bucket system. It should be noted that during specific implementation, appropriate adjustments need to be made based on local climate conditions, water quality, and other factors.
